Obituary & Life History

Holly Ann Auman, age 72, passed away peacefully in the early morning of August 15, 2021, due to cancer. She was born on November 6, 1948, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Lillian and Velmer Dorsch.
Holly attended Gallaudet University, a Deaf university, in Washington, DC, from 1966 to 1971. She learned American Sign Language there and graduated with a degree in religion and philosophy. Holly joined the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints in 1970. She married and was sealed to Wilson Edward Auman in 1976 at the Los Angeles Temple in California.

Holly loved children. She spent many years teaching and working for the Utah School for the Deaf and Blind and for the California School for the Deaf, Riverside.

While not at work, she served as a volunteer, visiting families in their homes, to teach American Sign Language to the parents of deaf children. She loved doing family history research for herself and for others and enjoyed taking mini trips in the United States. She was dedicated to a holistic lifestyle, learning all about alternative natural approaches to health. Music was her passion, and she often translated songs into ASL at church for fellow church members and for musical accompaniment with as; in fact, her sign name was associated with music. She was specifically proud of her four children and of having served the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in many callings. Holly loved and supported people in all these ways and more.

Holly is survived by her husband, Wilson; her sister, Sharon; her sister-in-law, Cathy; her children, Cedar, Eric, Allen and Britton; her daughter in law, Celeste; her grandchildren, Ezekiel, Arianna and Malakai; and her many nephews and nieces; all of whom she loved and touched deeply.

Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating Holly’s life on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM. The event will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints’ Sherman Building, 3680 Jackson St., Riverside, CA 92503. The Riverside Deaf Branch will provide light refreshments after the service. Please RSVP by Thursday, October 7, at 5:00 PM (PST) to Britton Auman at brittonemery@gmail.com.
